Music Recommendation - Cosmogramma
I can't say much about this album because I'm still in the process of wrapping my mind around the shear mass of it all. It isn't a long album, and most of the tracks last for a only a few minutes each, but the density is almost unparalleled by anything else I've ever heard. But here are my impressions so far...
Flying Lotus is a the great nephew of John Coltrane which may make you think this is some form of highly modified jazz, but it's really something entirely new and original. Yes you'll be able to pick out parts here and there that may resemble jazz to some degree, but like every good laptop musician his music draws on dozens if not hundreds of musical influences through the ages to craft something unique and beautiful. FlyLo produces the kind of music that you can't comprehend in one sitting, or in a dozen sittings for that matter. Each track is bursting at its seams with outstanding musicianship mashed together with techno wizardry, yet it eventually all comes together into some sort of bizarre cohesiveness that gives new meaning to the phrase "organized chaos." Its true beauty is revealed when you give up listening to the songs and start feeling them instead.
